Burn Survivor Project

Surviving After the Fire

When Kelly and Carrie Kohan went to Los Angeles to a women's conference, they met a lady named Jane who was from Nairobi, Kenya. She lived in the Kibera Slums, but found a way to work her way out of the slums. Kelly gave her a copy of her book 'No Risk No Rewards' to read and then she got an email from Jane.

She was telling Kelly about the Sinai Fire (video below) and how almost 200 people died and 100 people were still recovering from their burns. She asked Kelly for help. She asked Kelly if she could come to Kenya and help give the burn survivors "hope", hope that they could still have normal lives. And so, they came up with an idea to plan a burn survivor conference for the survivors and their families.

She also told Kelly about how it would be so much better and safer for the children if they had solar lamps instead of the normal electricity. The children are getting electrocuted and dying by plugging stuff into the power supplies.

Kelly and Carrie's mission is to raise $20,000 so they can send a team of people over to Kenya to help the burn survivors plus install solar lamps for the families in need. The solar lamps are only $20 U.S.
